As the first UK stoma patient support group, established in 1956 between patient and health professionals, IA specialises in supporting people with an ileostomy or internal pouch as well as their families, friends and carers. This surgery gives thousands of people a fresh chance in life, providing freedom from the debilitating illnesses of ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease and other health issues necessitating colon removal or diversion. IA is represented locally by a network of member organisations throughout the UK and Ireland, all of which are managed by volunteers, most of whom have an ileostomy or internal pouch. Whether it’s through the IA Journal, our visiting service, our range of focused literature or our popular forums online, IA can confidently use the strapline 'Because we know, we care'... and for 60 years we have been caring.
